About the New York GiantsYour one stop shop for all New York Giants information including where to find the best tickets, hotels, directions, and weather updates. The New York Giants were named after the professional baseball team in New York with the same name at the time, by booming businessman Tim Mara, after he bought the team for only $500. Mara hoped to bring the NFL to the forefront of popular sports in the country, despite the majority of fans in the United States supporting college football, boxing, and baseball exclusively. The Giants have experienced times of success and disappointment, although it seems like this franchise has always had contenders and winning teams, especially considering their long-standing history in the NFL. The New York Giants have played with some of the greatest footballers in NFL history including 27 Hall-of-Famers such as RB Jim Thorpe, LB Lawrence Taylor, and QB Fran Tarkenton. The Giants illustrious list of franchise accomplishments include an incredible 29 playoff appearances, 22 division titles, and 3 Super Bowl Championships in 4 Super Bowl game appearances. Despite beginning their franchise in 1925 at the Polo Grounds, the New York Giants will play at the Meadowland Stadium on the 2010 Season. The New York Giants always promise an exciting show with sell-out ticket sales almost a certainty. 2009 Season The 2009 New York Giants are looking for redemption. After the collapse of the 2008 incarnation to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Divisional Playoffs, Head Coach Tom Coughlin looked to get his team back in the hunt. The franchise began by taking care of its quarterback, Eli Manning, who signed a six-year $97.5 million contract. Oft troubled wide receiver Plaxico Burress was released as was RB’s Ruben Drones and Kay Jay Harris. The Giants did lure away free agent Chris Canty from the Dallas Cowboys, Canty coming off the best season of his career (while in the 3-4 defense) is expected to move from his Defensive End position with Dallas to a defensive tackle in the Giants 4-3 scheme With the season at the half way mark, the Giants are sitting in third place in the NFC East with a record of 5-4 2008 Season The New York Giants are looking to defend the Super Bowl title they won last year and improve upon their 2007 season record of 10-6 in the regular season. The Giants have a good shot at doing it, with Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning behind the reigns for an exciting 2008 season. Building upon their already solid foundations, the New York Giants have acquired Pro Bowl safety Sammy Knight and signed highly-regarded, defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. The Giants are selling tickets fast to fans wanting to see a Super Bowl repeat. The 2008 incarnation of the New York Giants were poised to take the NFL by storm after coming off their Super Bowl XLII victory over the previously undefeated New England Patriots. The Giants took up where they left off as they tore through the league losing only four games, compiling a 12-4 record (losing to rivals the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles as well as to the Cleveland Browns and the last game of the season to the Minnesota Vikings). In the playoffs the Giants would match up against the Philadelphia Eagles in the first round, the NFC Divisional Game. The Giants would struggle to score a touchdown and would not be able to mustering three field goals and a safety. |
